Family Health Promotion Joins Community-Wide Clean-Up Initiative in Dzaleka Refugee Camp

Dzaleka Refugee Camp, Malawi – May 21, 2026

Community hygiene and sanitation have become a cornerstone of Family Health Promotion’s (FHP) mission to build healthier and safer communities. Through regular environmental health activities, FHP continues to demonstrate its commitment to disease prevention, community engagement, and collective responsibility.

On May 21, 2026, Family Health Promotion joined hands with Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) Malawi and a government delegation in a large-scale community clean-up campaign across Dzaleka Refugee Camp. The activity covered a significant section of the camp, beginning at the main bus stand, continuing past the JRS offices and the Refugee Status Interview offices, and concluding at the Dzaleka Camp Quarantine Centre.

The initiative brought together humanitarian organizations, government representatives, and community volunteers with a shared goal of creating a cleaner environment and reducing the risk of diseases associated with poor sanitation. Participants worked side by side to remove waste, clear public spaces, and promote environmental cleanliness throughout one of the camp’s busiest areas.

Founded by Mr. Elie Zagabe and locally led by Mr. Placide Basinza, Family Health Promotion believes that lasting public health improvements are achieved through collaboration and active community participation. The clean-up exercise demonstrated the strength of partnerships and reinforced the importance of working together to improve the well-being of all residents.

Beyond improving the physical environment, the event served as a powerful reminder that maintaining a healthy community requires continuous action and shared responsibility. Every participant contributed to a common vision of a safer, cleaner, and more resilient Dzaleka Refugee Camp.

As FHP continues its mission, the organization encourages every community member to remain engaged in promoting hygiene and sanitation. This is not the time to become complacent—it is a time to strengthen our collective efforts in preventing disease and protecting the health of future generations.

Together, through teamwork, dedication, and community engagement, we can create lasting positive change and build a healthier future for everyone.
