Family Health Promotion Enhances Sanitation and Public Health in Kawale I Zone (11 May)

Family Health Promotion (FHP) continued its weekly community service initiative on 11 May 2026 by conducting a general sanitation and clean-up exercise in Kawale I Zone of Dzaleka Refugee Camp.

The activity focused on improving the cleanliness of critical pathways and the surroundings of a vital borehole that serves more than 300 refugee families in the heart of the camp. Recognizing the importance of maintaining a clean environment around essential community infrastructure, FHP volunteers dedicated their efforts to ensuring these areas remained safe, accessible, and hygienic.

Equipped with rakes, wheelbarrows, gloves, shovels, face masks, and brooms, the volunteers worked tirelessly to remove waste and restore cleanliness to streets and public spaces throughout Kawale I. Areas that had become heavily affected by litter and poor sanitation were transformed through the commitment and teamwork of the FHP members.

Particular attention was given to the borehole site, which served as the focal point of the day’s exercise. Maintaining cleanliness around water sources is critical for protecting community health and reducing the risk of disease transmission. Through their efforts, the volunteers helped create a healthier environment for the hundreds of families who rely on the borehole for their daily water needs.

Despite the success of the activity, the team encountered several challenges. Limited access to essential working tools affected the pace of the clean-up operation, while the considerable distance between the work site and the central waste disposal point required volunteers to make repeated trips to transport collected waste.

Nevertheless, the dedication and determination of the FHP team ensured that the activity achieved its objectives. Their commitment demonstrates the organization’s ongoing mission to promote environmental health, community responsibility, and disease prevention throughout Dzaleka Refugee Camp.

Family Health Promotion remains committed to serving the community through regular sanitation initiatives and encourages all residents to play an active role in maintaining a clean and healthy environment for present and future generations.

Together, we are building a healthier and more resilient community
